October 19th Book

We are very excited for October’s spooky book theme! Everyone voted last month on the spooky (but not scary) Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. It’s a young adult fantasy novel set in realistic urban setting. Yadriel’s family has trouble accepting his gender, but he’s determined to prove to them he is a brujo. There’s mystery, intrigue, and witchcraft, all wrapped up and presented spectacularly. It’s also the first book about a trans character with an openly trans author to make it on the New York Times bestseller list, which is endlessly exciting. I read this book almost a year ago exactly, and I am looking forward to finally getting to chat about it with others.

I’m also excited that this is the first book we’ve had to actually feature a trans person. We’ve only read two other books, but still! I was quickly enthralled by Thomas’ work and can’t wait to read more from him, especially in this universe.

And all, I just found out there’s a sequel coming out in September 2025 - I am so excited!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting - Mahon Public Library, Saturday October 19th, from 4-6pm.
