LubbockPRIDE Announces Date and Changes for their Annual Lubbock Pride Festival in 2023
On this first day of Pride Month, 2023, LubbockPRIDE would like to announce that our annual Lubbock Pride Festival will be held on Saturday, June 10th from noon to dark, with vendors open from noon to 7pm. Moving the Festival to June, during the internationally recognized PRIDE month, is the first of two major changes for 2023.
Statement Condemning the Cancellation of a Benefit Drag Show at West Texas A&M University
The LubbockPRIDE organization would like to publicly express our concern with the sudden cancellation of a drag show (proceeds benefiting the Trevor Project to help prevent LGBTQ+ suicide), which was scheduled for March 31st at West Texas A&M University. The reasons expressed for cancelling the show are very troubling.
Letter to Lubbock City Council
On February 12th, 2022, the Lubbock LGBTQ community and its allies were devastated to hear of the brutal murder of 21-year-old Cypress Ramos (part of our transgender community), whose body was found in a burning storage unit. The case has not been classified as a hate crime, but to an LGBTQ community that is constantly faced with hatred and bigotry from multiple angles, a legal designation is not needed; it is still an attack on our community, and it only adds to the fear and anxiety these constant attacks on their lives create.
Statement Condemning Anti-LGBTQ Protests
The LubbockPRIDE organization would like to publicly condemn the anti-LGBTQ protests that several groups have participated in at local high schools. The anti-LGBTQ protests at Frenship High have already made headlines, and then it came to our attention that on Monday, January 23rd, what appears to be a different group of protesters, were at both Lubbock High School and Monterey High School. While we understand an individual’s right to free speech, we cannot stand by and ignore these attacks on our youth in Lubbock, especially those that are part of the LGBTQ community.
