LubbockPRIDE Announces Exciting Changes for the Annual Lubbock Pride Fest in 2024
LUBBOCK, TEXAS. LubbockPRIDE would like to officially announce the annual Lubbock Pride Fest will once again be held in June, during the internationally recognized Pride Month. The date is Saturday, June 22 from 12pm until 8pm, with vendors open from 12pm to 6pm. We also have some changes to announce. First, the event will be held in Lubbock’s downtown Art District (511 Ave K), with activity throughout the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA), the Charles Adams Studio Project (CASP), and Two Docs Brewing Co areas. Because of the love that the Art District shows us by featuring a multiplicity of artists, the Art District is an ideal location to celebrate the many faces of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.
This is our 12th year as an organization, but we continue to grow and learn how to best accommodate and entertain the extensive diversity of our LGBTQ+ community and their allies. We take feedback from the LGBTQ+ community, and our sponsors, vendors, and allies seriously. Our goal is to provide an annual Pride Fest, as well as other events throughout the year, that are representative, safe, educational, and fun. We want to help provide spaces where people feel comfortable being their true selves without the worry of hate speech, condemnation, or risk of violence.
These intentions bring us to a very important second change. Moving the Lubbock Pride Fest to the Art District has allowed us to provide a limited increase in safety for our attendees. We decided it was important to take security a step further. After reviewing feedback, extensive discussion, and collaboration from the Lubbock Police Department, we have decided to charge attendees over the age of 12 a single dollar ($1) to enter. This price allows Lubbock Pride Fest to be a private event within our barricades. The fee allows us to restrict protestors to outside of the barricades as well as remove anyone that is disruptive, spewing hate speech, or violating the basic rules of the festival. Additionally, ALL proceeds from admission will be deposited into our scholarship fund, as we continue to expand the ways in which we give back to the community. We are an all-volunteer board, and no proceeds ever go to us. Any profit always goes back to the community.
The day will continue to hold true to our past festivals, including a vendor fair with over 100 vendors, a dozen food trucks, performances from local musicians and artists, a cosplay contest, and family-friendly drag show. This year we will also have a movie screening of 1946, art exhibits (including an LGBTQ+ timeline project), an indoor activity area dedicated for kids & their parents only, a large indoor cool-down space with seating and games, and an adults-only comedy show and drag show.
Anyone interested can keep further informed of the full schedule of events by following the LubbockPRIDE Facebook or Instagram pages, or by checking our website at www.LubbockPRIDE.org
